Choosing a preschool
curriculum
can be an overwhelming endeavor. You want to make sure that you’re
child is on track to learn what he or she needs to learn in order to be caught
up with the other kids when kindergarten time comes around. However, you also
want to choose a preschool curriculum which suits the individual needs of your
child, including his or her need for a fun, challenging, interesting approach
to education. After all, the preschool curriculum that you select is going to
set the foundation for your child’s educational experience and your hope
is that he or she will learn to love learning.

So, how do you choose
a preschool curriculum? Here are three tips to get you started.

Choosing
a Preschool Curriculum, Tip #1:
Select a curriculum which
offers different programs for different ages.

One
of the easiest ways to narrow down your options when choosing a preschool
curriculum is to eliminate all of those choices which lump all preschoolers
into one category. After all, what your child needs to be learning (and
how he or she will learn it!) at age two is vastly different from what
your child needs to be learning at age five, so you should choose a preschool
curriculum that is individualized to your child’s age and level
of development.

For example, our
program
comes with three different preschool curriculum age groups –
one for your child at two, one for your child at three, and one for your child
from ages four to six. Selecting a preschool curriculum like this lets you gear
the curriculum to your child’s development, see your child’s growth,
and get the most from your selection.

Choosing a Preschool
Curriculum, Tip #2:
Select a curriculum which covers the
basic subjects that your child needs to learn.

You probably don’t
want to choose a preschool curriculum that is limited to only one area of your
child’s education. The preschool years are a time when your child is able
to rapidly grasp a range of different concepts, so you should be providing your
child with a preschool curriculum that gives him or her a broad educational
experience. You will want to make sure that the preschool curriculum that you
choose includes all of the basics.

Think back to the three R’s
from your own education: Reading, Writing and ‘Rithmetic. In addition
to reading, writing and basic math skills, you’ll want to make sure that
your child’s preschool curriculum includes science and social studies
lessons. These are all basic subjects which are covered in elementary school
so getting your child used to them during the preschool years can give him or
her the comfort needed to do well in all areas as the material within these
subjects gets more difficult.

Choosing a Preschool
Curriculum, Tip #3:
Select a curriculum that you are comfortable
with.

In the end, you
really do need to go with your gut when choosing a preschool curriculum. You
know your child and you are able to intuitively select a curriculum that makes
sense for him or her. Some preschool curriculums will have more rigid plans,
others will be more flexible. Some are based on one type of learning method
while others let your child explore the different ways that he or she can learn.
Explore all of your options with a calm approach and know that you’re
going to select the one that is right for your child and your family at this
time. Relax, all education is good education.
